Aegerter dominated the 2021 season in the Supersport category right from the start. The Swiss rider contested 19 of the 21 races so far, taking ten wins, two second places and a third place twice. Now he crowned himself prematurely with the world title.
Aegerter headed into the Argentinian race with a 54-point lead in the championship, but could only manage fifth in Race 1, finishing just behind title rival Odendaal. The Swiss rider now needed to outscore Odendaal by two points on Sunday, and after the South African was taken out of contention in Turn 1, it all-but guaranteed that the 2021 rookie would be crowned champion. He fought to a third-place finish, his 14th podium of the season, and became Yamaha’s ninth and the team’s 10th WorldSSP champion.
Big emotions
Dominique Aegerter after the race: “The feelings of winning the first World Championship title are overwhelming. It’s still hard for me to realise it all. I think it will only be when I get back to our pit box where my team is waiting for me to celebrate this great achievement. I’m so happy for them, and also for my family and friends, without whose support I would never have got to this point. I can’t wait to get home and celebrate with them too. I have spent 25 years of my life working towards this day and now I am a world champion. I have had to sacrifice a lot to reach this goal. It was not always easy times. But I never gave up holding on to my dream. Today I have made it. I am overjoyed!”
World champions ride Yamaha and wear iXS

For 20 years iXS has been a proud companion of Dominique Aegerter’s racing career. Peter Hostettler, is absolutely delighted about the title: “The hostettler group, iXS and Yamaha Switzerland are proud that after Randy Krummenacher in 2019, we can now celebrate the World Supersport title with Dominique Aegerter and bring it to Switzerland again. Personally, I have always believed in Domi and I am super happy that he secured the world championship title with two races to go! Many thanks also to his team Ten Kate and Yamaha!”
